The standard PCN level 1 course assumes no previous knowledge of thermography. It  is suitable for new camera owners or operators, engineering personnel  wanting to expand their skill base or managers looking to increase the effectiveness of their condition monitoring or facilities maintenance programme.

The course will combine basic academic principles and theory of the infrared spectrum, heat, temperature and measurement techniques with a substantial practical element. This will be achieved by means of lectures, tutorials, exercises and demonstrations including a practice survey in a live factory environment. Students will be expected to complete homework assignments during the course and will be continually assessed as the week progresses. Those who successfully complete the course will be awarded an approved training certificate which will enable them to sit the PCN exam.
